I grew up around the leather craft business. My dad and uncle got their start in leather back in the 1960's. Through the years, they made all kinds of things in leather and had retail stores as well. When I was young, my dad stepped away from the retail business and focused on his own craft, taking us to fine art and craft shows all over the country. I worked in my dad's shop as a boy stuffing bags, setting rivets, painting the building and even one summer digging out the basement!

In my former life, I was a US Army paratrooper. I served all over the US, Panama, Iraq, Korea, and elsewhere. After more than a decade as a warfighter, I needed a change.

So, I decided to start my own leather craft business. With a few machines my dad gave me and some money I had saved, I started Homestead Leather LLC on the old family farm, where seven generations of our family had lived for over one hundred fifty years.

Today, my shop is co-located with my dad's business, MacClay Leather Design. You can see his work at MacClayLeather.com.
